Good. Everything was working as planned. Yuichiro surveyed the crowd's reactions, taking careful note of their mental states. The anger, the despair, the hopelessness, the liberation, the ability to do whatever you want without holding back. It was behavior that made sense to him, behavior that these same people had judged him for prior to this little stunt. His only regret was that this was temporary for them, a slight reprieve from the shackles of morality. When this was over, they would be right back to claiming moral superiority, but that was okay. The damage was already done.
Everyone was acting as expected, a fact that was both good and bad for Dr. Hikari. Good because he would have to put very little effort into distracting them further, but bad because he was now in danger as well. This was also expected, however. He was used to the constant threat on his life, a danger that loomed over him every time he left his office. Of course he came prepared; self-defense was almost second nature by now.
He slipped the microserver back into his pocket and left his hand there, resting it on his weapon of choice. It would come out when the time was right, but with the way the pink girl was approaching him, he had a feeling that this was not that time.
"Now listen up," Yuichiro said, remaining calm under pressure. He made eye contact with Meiru, but spoke to the entire group. "I know you are all eager to see me dead. A natural response, really, but not a smart one. I pose no threat to you unless you attack first. I can't say the same for your fellow teammates, however. Maybe someone here has a grudge against someone else. Maybe they want to get to me first. Maybe they just need to let out some anger. In any case, wouldn't it be safer to make the first move on someone who's actually a threat?"
Dealing with others under the influence of Soulnet was always a gamble, but one that Yuichiro dealt with every day. Prey on their insecurities, add an element of paranoia, and hope that their hatred of him doesn't outweigh their urge to tear each other apart. In such a volatile state, they shouldn't be too difficult to manipulate. And if they do all manage to kill each other, well, less for him to deal with.
