The room broke off into a thousand pieces, their surroundings turning to pure black and the computer holding their guardian hostage falling into the abyss. Lan is hurtling through the air, she is falling, the mirror is growing distant as his words echo in her mind. Everything felt unbearably slow, her arms outstretched as she stared at the other Lan in pure horror.
She had, in essence, moved down the list. She hadn't looked Regal in the face, so it was easier to blame him. B-but, that wasn't... why she really hated him, was it? For a moment, her thoughts felt quiet, sober, like that fucking darkness hadn't wormed its way into her skin. Maybe he was right. She hated him because she never wanted to be him.
Lan kept flying backward as she resigned herself, a warmth crawling up her throat and overtaking her. Her thoughts went quiet - there was nothing to claw, or punch, so she just choked up and let out a small squeak, before-
Her head makes a sickening CRACK as she crashes into a large glass screen, seemingly materialized from nowhere. There is an awful ringing in her head as glass shards explode around her, a piece of the screen embedding itself into the back of her skull. Blood trickles down her arms, and her mind and body are entirely numb for a few moments.
The first test will be your endurance.
It's so cold. The darkness surrounding her is her only comfort as she lies there, completely still, the shattered screen buzzing behind her and the angel glaring at her with contempt from across the void.
RING RING RING RING RING RING RING RING
The black liquid continued to pour out of the wounds in her arms, and from the wound in the back of her head, and lastly, it began to pour from her eyes. And then, out of the wound in her chest, black smoke erupted as her eyes glowed a crimson red. Her entire body shook, the smoke coalescing around her and obscuring her face, leaving it shadowed out.
A brief pause, until finally, the beast awoke.
Lan roared to life, stumbling forward, grabbing something, and screaming, and she kept screaming, her voice echoing through the empty void. She was entirely subsumed by smoke, a freakish grin forming on her face- and then she broke out into an impossibly fast run, grabbing the angel by the neck before he could react. She squeezed him as the blood trickled down her back from the wound in her head, and she broke out into a cackle. "Fucking idiot," she laughed. "D-didn't you hear me befoooore? You have no idea what it's like to be me!!"
She tossed the angel to the ground, letting him skid along the invisible floor and leaving dark streaks. In a fraction of a second, she practically warped to standing on top of him, leaning over to grapple his head with her right arm. There were shards of glass embedded in it; she was obviously losing a lot of blood, but somehow she was still so alive and fast and full of hate.
Kill. Kill. Kill. KILL KILL KILL KILL
"Nobody cares about you because nobody cares about us. Didn't you say it yourself?!" she seethed. "So we have to make our OWN path!! But you're too fucking STUPID to realize that! Hahahaha!! HAHAHA! Haaaaahahaha!"
Lan tilted the angel's head forward, growling and giggling madly. It was difficult to tell what the liquid pouring from her eyes was. She leaned over and brandished a glass shard from the screen in her left hand.
"W-we already figured it aaaaaalll out," she said, her eyes flickering and pulsating. "But you, you never will. Y-you're gonna get what you deserve. For letting him dieeee!"
Lan dramatically raised her arm, clutching the glass shard tightly. Her own reflection is sickening, wild, deranged. She swung her arm such that it would slash directly across his neck-
